Harrington on Hold 'em: Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments, Vol. 2: Endgame
by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie

A must-have in any poker girl's library!
Overwhelmingly positive reviews!

Description: In the first volume of this series, Harrington on Hold 'em: Volume I: Strategic Play, Dan Harrington explained how to play in the early phases of tournaments, when most players at the table had plenty of chips, and the blinds and antes were small. This book, Harrington on Hold 'em: Volume II: The Endgame shows you how to play in the later phases of a tournament, when the field has been cut down, the blinds and antes are growing, and the big prize money is within sight. Harrington shows you how to make moves, handle tricky inflection point plays, and maneuver when the tournament is down to its last few players and the end is in sight. He’s also included a whole chapter on heads-up play, whose strategies up to now have been a closely-guarded secret of the game's top masters.

Harrington on Hold 'em: Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments, Vol. 3: The Wokbook
by Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie

A must-have in any poker girl's library!
Overwhelmingly positive reviews!

Description: This book is a companion to vol. 1 and 2, and it consists of 50 hands, presented as quizzes. About half of the hands are from well-known poker pros in televised events, and the other half are anonymous hands from online or live play. Each hand consists of several questions and there is a scoring key so you can have your answers evaluated.

There are a number of notable hands included, such as Jennifer Harman's painful encounter with a straight flush at the 2005 WSOP Main Event and a few hands from the ESPN Superstars II competition with Phil Hellmuth, Hoyt Corkins, Mike Matusow and other well-known players. There are also a number of hands involving Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey, two of the most successful No Limit Hold'em tournament players of the last 10 years.

The hands typically have four or five questions revolving around the play at each street. Concepts from the first two books are illustrated, such as dealing with aggression, standards for calling all-in, and bet sizing. There are also six hands specifically addressing bubble play in Sit & Gos. The book covers a wide variety of situations. In many of the examples you have a marginal but playable hand, so the decisions tend to require some thought. Often more than one answer is reasonable but the authors explain the pros and cons of each choice.

The authors generally employ a small-ball style of play which includes a fair amount of calling preflop and an emphasis on playing with position. They disdain the all-in move that tends to dominate online tournaments. (Review from PokerLit.Com)

Tournament Poker for Advanced Players: Expanded Edition
by David Sklansky

Full of valuable Sklansky advice!

Description: Tournament poker is very different from standard ring game poker. While they might appear the same from a distance, there are many differences in proper strategy that are often unknown to many experienced cash game players. Some players excel at tournament poker. This is not luck -- these are players who have a very strong understanding of what the proper strategy adjustments are, and when they come into play. It is no coincidence that the same players make it to final tables far more than their fair share.

This book explains tournament strategies that only a small number of players have mastered. It assumes you already know how to play poker well, but aren't knowledgeable of tournament-specific concepts and when and where to use them. Some of the ideas discussed include the effect of going broke, the Gap Concept, how chips change value, adjusting strategy to rising stakes, all-in strategy, final table play, making deals, the "System," focusing on weaker opponents, unusual plays with aces and kings, moving in against the blind, and much more. This newly expanded version contains over 100 new pages of updated material dedicated almost entirely to today;s most popular form of tournament poker: no-limit hold 'em.

Tournament Poker and
the Art of War

by David Apostolico

Another essential poker tournament read!

Description: Tournament Poker & The Art Of War seeks to take the ancient philosophies of Chinese author Sun Tzu and apply them to the art of tournament poker play. Published by Lyle Stuart in February of 2005, this third book by Apostolico is a quick read that offers great value for the no-limit Texas Hold’em tournament player who seeks to improve his or her game.

By outlining ten principles taken from Sun Tzu’s legendary book, The Art of War, Apostolico prepares a strategy that will polish a poker warriors skill and strengthen his or her arsenal. The ten principles are briefly summarized below:

1. You must understand the consequences of your actions
2. You must play each hand for maximum value and minimum risk
3. You must eliminate your opponent quickly
4. You must accumulate chips every chance you get
5. You must vary your play
6. You must know yourself and know your opponent
7. You must use strength to exploit weakness
8. You must not wait for the best hand to act
9. You must change your play with changing situations
10. You must understand: Poker is an art of deception

Readers of Tournament Poker & The Art Of War stand to benefit by taking these and other gems from the book to the tournament table. The book is short enough for a player to bring along to an event and use as a reference. There are sections
that cover pre-tournament preparation that will give the reader an edge over those players who just show up to play unprepared.
